The aim of the course is for pilots to achieve the level of proficiency
necessary to operate Helicopters under IFR in accordance with ICAO
PAN-OPS Document 8186. As well as undertaking 40 hours simulator flying
and 10 hours in the helicopter plus your test, the IR(H) course also
has a number of ground school lessons. Subjects covered include:-
- GPS, SRA & PAR
- VOR, NDB & DME
- Holds & ILS

- Emergencies & Failures
- Jeppview
- European IFR Rules
Simulator flying takes place on either an Agusta 109 (GAS78) or
Eurocopter AS350/355 (COT96) – both are FNPT II.
Prior to commencing the course, the student needs to have undertaken a
Multi Engine Type Rating course and also ensure that they meet the
minimum course requirements.
