Basic Requirements for the issuance of an Indian CPL
The following is an extract from the DGCA's Official
Website, of the eligibility requirements for the issuance of an Indian
CPL.
The student shall be a citizen of India.
(a) Age—
He shall be not less
than Eighteen years of age on the date of application. You may start
flying training in the USA while you are still 17 years and get through
you PPL. However, you must be 18 years before you would be eligible to
go for your check ride for your CPL.
(b) Educational Qualification—
He shall have passed Class Ten plus Two or an equivalent examination
with Physics and Mathematics, from a recognized Board/University. This
however does not imply that to meet these requirements you need to
academically be a science student. Arts and Commerce students may
privately pass their Physics and Math examinations and become
eligible to hold a commercial license.
(c) Medical Fitness— The
student should have cleared his DGCA Class 1 medical examination
conducted by the authorized centers.
(d) Knowledge— He shall pass a
written examination in Air Regulations, Air Navigation Meteorology and
aircraft and Engines and Signals (practical) examination for
interpretation of aural and visual signals, as per the syllabus
prescribed by the Director-General.
(e) Experience— He shall
produce evidence of having satisfactorily completed as a pilot of an
aeroplane within a period of five years immediately preceding the date
of application for license the prescribed training as contained in the
Indian Aircraft Rules Section J for a CPL and Section O for an
Instrument Rating. For more information click here.
(f) Flying Experience if in the USA:
For
those
students
who complete their flying training at Aviation
Pacific, they would need to convert their FAA License to the DGCA
license by satisfactorily completing two examination papers:
Air Regulations
A composite paper of Air Navigation and Meteorology.
Professional Flying Training in the USA
Flying training in the USA consists of these distinct stages leading
upto a CPL/IR/ME. Each of these stages concludes with an FAA written
exam and a proficiency check ride.
