Aviation Pacific - JAA ATPL Distance Learning Ground Training

Online JAA ATPL Ground Course for Indian Students

King AirAviation Pacific Inc. will be extending its training operations to Mumbai India, where pilots holding an ICAO/FAA CPL/IR/ME could now, through distance learning, qualify for a frozen JAA ATPL. Under a collaborative training arrangement with Cranfield Aviation Training School (CATS), UK, the mandatory ground training required, will be conducted in Mumbai, by JAA approved ground training instructors from CATS, UK. The UK CAA JAA examinations will be conducted at the British Council, Mumbai. This arrangement has been carefully structured and will have the complete approval of the UK CAA.

JAA ATPL Program Structure

The entire distance learning program is structured in two parts.

Part 1 (INDIA/ASIA) This consists of the enrolling, studying and clearing the 14 exams. This can be done right here in India. Study at home for most part of the course and attend the ground training refresher course conducted at the Aviation Pacific (India) at Mumbai. These classes are scheduled about a fortnight before the examinations. Appear for the examination according to the published schedule by the CAA (UK) and conducted by the British Council.

Part 2 (U.K.) This part will be conducted in one of our partner schools. We will be shortly announcing the details of these arrangements.

JAA ATPL Ground Training - Part 1 (INDIA/ASIA)

Though Part 1 is conducted through distance learning; which means that you can study anytime at your convenience, it is always advisable to maintain regular study schedules. This would require you to devote at least 3 hours a day in home study. Only then you would be able to complete this course in good time. You must complete the entire ground theory within 18 months.

Ground Classroom Training at Mumbai

The ground training will be conducted at a designated venue in Mumbai by JAA qualified instructors from CATS, UK. This training comprises of subject overviews and exam preparation. This will be conducted just prior to each exam module. The duration of ground training for each module is 5 days. Each module session would deal with the subjects relevant to that module. Each daily session is approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes; broken into 4 subjects of approx an hour each. This pre-exam classroom training is a mandatory JAA/CAA requirement. You will not be allowed to appear for the examination if you fail to attend this ground course a obtain a check off.

Ground Classroom Training at Camarillo, USA

For Indian and other Asian students under training at Aviation Pacific Camarillo, you may enroll into the JAA ATP Ground Course alongside your flying training. Ideally, you should do this shortly after you complete your Private Pilot Certificate. Aviation Pacific's classroom facilities are approved by the U.K. CAA to conduct the JAA ATPL mandatory classroom training. This way you could complete the first module whilst under flying training at California and thereafter complete the remaining modules when you return to India.

JAA ATPL Written Examinations:

The written examinations in India will be conducted by the British Council on behalf of the CAA U.K. Here is an overview of how this entire ground training would play out.

Examination for Module 1 subjects: One day

Study for Module 2 - Three Months

Attend Ground School refresher training for module 2: One week

Examinations for Module 2 subjects: One day

Ground School refresher training for module 3: One week

Examination for Module 3: One day

Examinations will be conducted in the months of February, May, August and November every year. Multiple modules would be conducted at every examination session, making it then possible for pilots to commence their study plan at different times of the year. These examinations are likely to conducted more frequently once these courses has commenced.

Part 2 (U.K)

In this part of the course you will need to fulfill the following requirements.

Engine TrottlesClass 1 Medical at Gatwick Airport
Multi-engine Piston Class Rating (MEPCR)
Multi-engine Piston Instrument Rating (MEPIR)
UK R/T License

The Class I medical is for the initial medical examination is conducted only at Gatwick Airport. Subsequent medical renewal may be performed at the authorized medical centers.

The MEPCR is in fact a check ride on the multi engine aircraft conducted by the UK examiner. You may need to do a few hours of flight training to be able to successfully clear this check ride.

The MEPIR requires you to fly approx 14 hours in UK airspace under instrument conditions and pass the IR check ride conducted by a UK examiner.

The UK RT License is a short course conducted to obtain an RT License. For those who have completed the Indian RT License and have an FAA Commercial License, this test should not pose a serious challenge.

Those students who have already completed their flying training with FAA CPL/IR/ME qualification, and who are looking for employment opportunities, a frozen JAA ATPL qualification would indeed give them the competitive edge, in seeking employment in the airline industry and in other countries as well.
